Tom has been playing drums in various bands since 1991. "I started playing music more for the therapeutic effects than anything else. I soon fell in love with the freedom and creativity it provided, along with the relative anonymity of being a drummer. I got my start with Earthworm Circus playing an eclectic mix of classic rock and New Alternative. After that I joined Stranded. 80's and 90's rock fueled by amazing vocals. Then came Pipe Dream. HEAVY. I followed that with Linus. Metal with blues and funk influences. In each of these bands I split time writing original music and performing an ever increasing list covers. Following my departure from Linus I spent the next two years as "hired gun". Filling in any chair I could get. "Broadening my horizons", "Gaining Mileage", what ever you want to call it. I also found a "sometimes home" in 2/4 the Road. A 50's through now cover band with three of my best friends. Playing corporate shows, private parties, weddings that sort of thing. That bring us to May of 05, that's when I found Portraits. As local musicians, we had all played in different bands together for a number of years. Sharing Festival stages as well as the occasional bar gig. Then in the Spring of 2005 we joined forces. The result has become the happiest time I have ever spent behind my drums. The diverse sound of Portraits plays right into the vast spectrum of my influences. From Classical to Classic Rock. From Motown and Big Band to Progressive Metal. This band allows, and encourages the exploration of all of our musical identities. Making it the perfect creative outlet." |
